A result from last night compared with Dec07-Jan08 LHIRES 600 l/mm 90min (18x5min) R~3200 S/N 120 (Vega used as "flat". Normalised using linear fit through Marchenko "continuum" wavelengths) Robin

Great, Robin! That looks quite reliable, stable and solid. I'm impressed! ![]() I believe that is a god baseline for the periastron passage. Bye, Thomas |

Hello Robin, for comparison a spectrum of 12.5.2008, without any normalization. There are some variations around 570 nm. C14, Lhires III, 40 um slit, 1200 g/mm grating, Sigma 1603ME, 1x1 binning, 4x20min. = 80 min exposition, not normalized, roughly calibrated, S/N = 170 [5970:5990]. FWHM of Na lines(D, 5890 und 5896) 1.52 A -> R >= 3875.

Zitat: Hello Robin,
hello Lothar,for comparison a spectrum of 12.5.2008, without any normalization. There are some variations around 570 nm. That is interesting. I do not think I am seeing any significant change in my spectrum but your resolution and S/N is a bit better so perhaps you are seeing more than me. Do you have the spectrum as a fits file? I could normalize it in the same way and compare the two. Best Regards Robin |

Hello Lothar, Thank you for the FITS file. I have made a comparison of the area of interest. (Normalized using points at 5635 and 5755A.) Are there any real changes yet? I am not sure. Note 5635 is not a Marchenko continuum point. This is the reason for the slope in the top of the emission line but I do not have the Marchenko point below this in my spectrum and I did not get a good comparison by extrapolating from the higher points. (I think there is a problem with the way Vspec calculates the spline fit. It sometimes includes points at the edges of the profile which it should not. I need to talk to Valerie about it) Best Regards Robin

Hi Robin,no, I believe also, there is no significant change. But ist is interesting to see the good overlapping of our spectra in spite of the different setups. That makes me happy ! ![]() |
