Hello all:

I have taken the spectrum of HD 51480, parameters are:

C11; LHIRES3-2400l; QHYIMG2Pro with SONY 285AL CCD
do not make instrument response.

the software for treatment is ISIS.5.0.3

This is the 1st time for me to treat a spectral type of Ape star. I can see both absorption and emission simutaniously in 2D image, 1D spectrum looks so strange....

So I'd like to ask friends if it IS like this appearance or something wrong with me? And if someone has the same instrument like mine, could you take the spectrum of this star and to see what your result is?

Regards,
Dong . Li

Hello Dong Li,

the spectrum (2D) seems to be the Ha line of that star with the typical P Cyg- Profile.
But the 1D spectrum you show is an another thing with no similarity with the 2D spectrum

Dear Mr. Schanne:

Thank you for your notice.

I'd like to ask you if you use ISIS to treat spectra? What kind version are you using now ? So far I still encounter some strange problems with ISIS. 5.0.3 .

I am to take the spectra of this star as soon as possible again to try to treat again...

Dong . Li

Hi Dong Li

which steps did you follow in ISIS?

I have used a lot ISIS 4 and at some point I installed 4,4 but haven't used it yet because I got busy with normal life.

If you want you could give us the .fit file and give t a try.

Cheers
Alexandros

Dear Mr. Filothodoros:

Thank you ! Unfortunately because I doubt that my spectra are wrong then I have already deleted all of them. I am going to take a new set spectra of this star and try treatment again to see what will happen.

Recently I have some problems on the newest version ISIS 5.0.3. I have already posted them on ARAS forum ,but so far get no any answers or hints. Please see here about my problems.
http://www.spectro-aras.com/forum/viewt ... ?f=8&t=462

I have read through the new tutorial for 2 times, http://www.astrosurf.com/buil/isis/guid ... to1_en.htm
especially the "Compare" function, it can not work.

So if you can try 5.0.3, could you please teach me how to handle these problems and I appreciate you in advance...

Regards,
Dong Li (李冬)

Reduced with midas, not isis.

Hi there!

I hope that I can help.
Just give me some time.

Here is an uncalibrated profile with ISIS.It's identical to the one above.
It seems that you had trouble in diving the spectra.

What is the dispersion of your system?

Hello Dong Li,

I don't use ISIS, but ESO-MIDAS and sometimes for first fast looks IRIS + VSpec.

ESO-Midas is used by professional astronomers in europe within Linux and is a professional complex system of scripts for all purposes of work with astronomical data (e.g. .fits). You can download Midas without costs. See http://www.eso.org/sci/software/esomidas/

Dear Misters:

1st I appreciate all your timely help!

I am bad at maths & computer technology. I do not know what my system's dispersion is, how to get it? My system is: C11 [without reducer] + LHIRES3 2400L + sony CCD 285, its pixel is 6.45 x 6.45um.

And especaily, dear Mr. Schanne, I can not use Vspec. I have ever asked Ms. Desnoux, she told me that maybe the reason is that my PC is Windows XP chinese version, even I can NEVER open some demostrational pictures. I can not use Linux system, my computer capability is so bad. :( Anyway thank you very much for the Midas' link.

Here are my computer situation:
Windows XP SP3; IE8; and I do not want to update to Win7 etc.. as I feel that my computer capability is bad, so perhaps it'll be better to stay at old version.

Hello

you can install a virtual machine and English Windows into that.
I had the same problem with Greek Win XP.

Have you spent more time learning ISIS? You can use the images provided in the tutorial.

2- Use the H2O button on the Profile tab

4- I calibrated your spectrum with 0.1A/px as Mr Bernard wrote.
then I compared your spectrum with one of mine.It worked fine. both when I chose .fit and .dat. I'm not sure about what happened in your case.

5- See which one fits best.In the older versions I have Auto 1 almost always worked better.

Dear Mr. Filothodoros:

Thank you very much! These days here it is not sunny, but when it becomes sunny I am to try again to see what will happen.

All my great thanks to you~~
