Hallo Siegfried
Das Problem ist seit Mai bekannt. Die Fehlermeldung kommt, wenn die OCX-Datei nicht
richtig registriert werden konnte. Die 3? möglichen Lösung stehen unten.

thanks for your message. No I didn't try that. The problem was solved by a hint previously
in this group: I had to register (regsrv32) the OCX files manually from a command shell
that runs in Admin mode. That's what I didnt know... I didnt even know how to run the
command shell in Admin mode, now I do.

This means that the ocx component is not correctly registered. Usually this is done during
the installation. I recommend to run under admin right if not the case. Otherwise, André
will let me know.

Hi Andre,
Most people have been able to instal visual spec under win7 without problem but your
problem has been seen before. Below is the thread on spectro_l
If the suggested fix does not work for you I suggest emailing Valerie Desnoux direct
as she has obviously already seen this problem. (Her email address is on her website
Cheers

Robin,
THIS was the golden clue indeed! The secret was to run cmd.exe as administrator
when registering the ocx. So I did this:
* Launch "cmd.exe" in Windows 7, but don't just hit ENTER but CTRL-SHIFT-ENTER.
This will launch the process as the administrator... which makes all the difference.
* In the new console window, register MCI32.ocx as follows. Path might differ on
your system:
regsvr32 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Visual Spec\MCI32.OCX"
* Then try to start Visual Spec. Mine came up with another complaint about TABCTL32.OCX,
so I registered that as well:
regsvr32 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Visual Spec\TABCTL32.OCX"
Now my Visual Spec starts without complaints and I am ready to try it out with my test
pictures of street lights from yesterday.
Thanks to everybody who engaged in this thread!

Subject: [staranalyser] Re: MCI32.OCX missing with Visual Spec
Thank you for your messages. Here is my status:
* I am using the installer for Visual Spec 3.8.8 and then extract the new executable of
Visual Spec 3.9.4 from the zip file.
* The library MCI32.ocx is placed in the same directory as the executable when installing
3.8.8
* I downloaded the VB6SP6. When trying to install it told me that it can't because VB6
itself is not installed.
* So I searched on the net for a download of VB6 runtime, found various such as
http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/vbrun6.html or
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/co ... x?id=20429
* When trying to install those it tells me that "the application probably has not been in-
stalled correctly because of a compatibility problem" (I am translating this message
from my German Win7 64bit)
* It asks me to confirm and when I try the SP6 again it still says that VB6 runtime is
not there.
* When I try to register the MCI32.ocx manually via regsvr32 it tells me error code
0x8002801c.
* Looking up this code on the internet didn't lead anywhere so far.
However in a nutshell I am assuming that when an application like VisualSpec requires
some 2rd party components it should distribute these components along with its installer,
shouldn't it... even when it is free.
