Hi Jürgen,

I must be doing something wrong (see image) when I try to follow the iso author?s instructions. Any idea what?
(The iso file is in the Download folder)

the mount command is wrong.

There must be a blank between -o and loop
type "mount -o loop IRAF.... /mnt

sorry, I was wrong: this mount comment also works without blank.
The error says that the iso-file is missing.

Is the problem related to the fact that sudo placed me in the root directory but the iso file is in my Download directory? Do I need to move the iso file?
Also, I see that after sudo my prompt is a #, not $. What is the difference and is it relevant?

Ok, I have now been able to install IRAF, and other needed programs, from the iso file ... I had forgotten to change my directory to Downloads, which is why it would not run.

Now to start learning IRAF!

Hello everyone

I didn't see any references to Ureka.
I installed it yesterday and tried it out today.

Ureka is a collection of software.One of them is IRAF and today i tried it.It seems to work fine!

I just types the command shown here http://ssb.stsci.edu/ureka/1.0/

and let my computer open for a few hours, because my internet connection was slow.
The installation is done automatically.

When you open Ureka you will see a new terminal and you should use this to start IRAF.
