Is anything expected to be happening in the WR133 system at the moment? I see a broad excess emisison currently around the He absorption line at 6678A compared with two spectra in the ELODIE archive. http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/astr ... 110701.png direct link for non members http://tinyurl.com/6h5sebx This is confirmed in a lower resolution spectrum taken by Christian Buil http://groups.yahoo.com/group/astronomi ... 69379/view Robin |

Hi Robin: This could indeed be cery interesting: sounds like excess emission from colliding winds, as the 2 stars approach periastron passage in the 112d orbit. I'm not sure how to open the Yahoo thing, so could you please send me a spectrum in pdf format? Keep observing it regularly if you can! Cheers, Tony Zitat: ----- Original Message -----

Hi Tony, Hopefully attached should be the full story to date as a pdf for the record. (I now have the fits file of Buil's low resolution spectrum and I am not now sure it confirms the excess emission seen in my spectrum after all ) I guess if the orbit is 112 days things happen rather fast compared with WR140. If we follow this up is there a particular region we should be looking at? (I think John_s originally happened to look here just because he was set up at H alpha) Thanks Robin ----- Original Message ----- From: Tony Moffat (fg-spek-convento@vds-astro.de) To: fg-spek-convento@vds-astro.de (fg-spek-convento@vds-astro.de) Sent: Tuesday, July 05, 2011 12:05 AM Subject: [fg-spek] Re: WR133 Hi Robin: This could indeed be cery interesting: sounds like excess emission from colliding winds, as the 2 stars approach periastron passage in the 112d orbit. Hi Robin Lovely spectrum. I agree with Tony: it could be CW emission. The test will be if the emission bump moves systematically in t he next few weeks. The 10830 He I line showed a complex profile suggesting sub-peak emission (observed years ago, I'm afraid I didn't follow it up). Hi all, I am an amateur astrononomer who has just joined this forum and am interested in looking for evidence of CW in WR 133. To help me do this I have a couple of questions. 1) Is there an accurate estimate of the next periastron for WR 133? The only paper I could find with a timing in it was that from Underhill and Hill in 1994 who gave a BJD of 2447420.5 and a period of 112.4 days with error +/- 0.2 days. Extrapolating on from this gives next periastron at 16th October +/- 15days. 2) Any particular lines in the optical part of the spectra worth looking at? I intend to carry out analysis of this star during most of September and October weather permitting using my C14 telescope - with resolution R between 2000 and 3000. cheers John Strachan |
