I was innocently pushing my luck on eBay, searching for diffraction gratings and I stumbled on something I recently learned about. I found sheets of transmission gratings!
In schools they are using inexpensive sheets of transparent plastic that have many grooves. They are designed to be introductory tools for teaching some laws of diffraction. when sunlight passes, it shines a rainbow on the other side.
In eBay I found some with 500 or 1000 L/mm!.. Would these be of any interesting use in front of a telescope, like a slitless aperture prism (in this case aperture transmission grating) ?

Hello Fil,

they should run in front of a little telescope. But this grating foil is of holographic type and is not blazed. Therefore their efficiency is poor.
An other problem is the diffraction angle of some °. The spectrum of a star, with the picture of 0 order on the CCD, is not on the CDD. -> I think the identification of a spectrum is difficult (which star?).
