Hi Alex,
Maybe I?m wrong but I get the impression that you are assuming that all FIT files are the same format. The spectral file you are trying to view is what is called a ?1D? (one dimensional) type as it basically a tabular listing of wavelength vs. amplitude values and that type of FIT does need a ?spectroscopy? friendly program to view with ... VSpec, ISIS, IRIS, Rspec, SPAudace, Audela, IRAF, MIDAS etc. The more commonly known FIT format is the 2D (two dimensional) image type which is used to record our ?pretty picture ? and photometry images, and that is the only FIT type that Maxim DL (and most other software) knows about. I have no problem viewing Thierry?s spectra with ISIS, VSpec or Audela.
I?m surprised you have a problem running VSpec with Win7-64 as I?m sure I?ve read that others can.
Cheers, Bernard

Hello
thank you all for your input.
IRAF also cannot open Thierry's fit.
VSpec cannot be installed on my Win version( Win7 Home premium 64 bit.)
I tried once more with IRIS.
I managed to open the file but i had to go to the ''Profile'' tab and search for the fit.
I don't know why but each software was reporting a different error.
E.g. IRIS-''not wnough memory''.
ISIS- something in French about 2-xis .fit.
other software were reporting that the files cannot be read as fit files.
