Hi all! The French Yahoo group is not accessible anymore. When reading the contributions the page switches automatically to a login page. It seems that only registered users accepting all the coockie crap and respective private information can read it from now on. Very sad! Cheers, Thomas |

Hello Thomas, Which group are you trying to access? I can still read these groups without logging in http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/spec ... s/messages http://www.spectro-aras.com/forum/ The only spectroscopy groups I cannot read without logging in are http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/astr ... scopy/info http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/RSpe ... scopy/info Cheers Robin |

Hi Robin, it's http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/spec ... s/messages As soon as I scroll down, it switches to the login page. It's always the same with these company news groups. Thomas |

That is strange. It works fine for me. Try my Star Analyser group. I know that is set so anyone can read posts without being a member or logging in http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/star ... s/messages Cheers Robin |

OK I am now seeing the same problem. It looks like there is a problem with some Yahoo groups which were public being reclassified as restricted in error. Hopefully a temporary problem. I think the ARAS forum is better than spectro-l these days though. Robin |

Even if this is a bit off-topic - As we discuss this problem I just got an email invitation to another astronomy Yahoo group (a colleague sent it). The funny thing is threefold: First, no information about the inviting person (just by chance I know the email address ). Second, I am requested to register again (with personal information, of course). Third, this morning I read an article about Yahoo, Google etc. starting an initiative against NSA data collection. I guess you are right, Robin, ARAS forum might be the better choice (the server is in France). But it remains not very user friendly. Cheers, Thomas |

Hello Thomas, The problem should now be fixed on both the staranalyser and spectro-l groups. You should once more be able to read the messages without signing in http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/spec ... s/messages http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/star ... s/messages I suspect Google already knows more about us than the NSA do and probably knows us better than we know ourselves Cheers Robin |
