Hi all, a new textbook is available in the market:

Spectroscopic Instrumentation – Fundamentals and Guidelines for Astronomers
by Thomas Eversberg & Klaus Vollmann

http://www.springer.com/astronomy/astro ... 62-44534-1
and for example pages
http://books.google.com.au/books?id=DQV ... over&hl=de

The hardcover has 653 pages and contains

• all spectrograph fundamentals and mathematical basics (standard and echelle) necessary for instrumental designers, student and scientist,
• fundamental considerations on refractive and reflective optics
• practical examples (some well-known achievements from the amateur domain are included),
• periphery instrumentation (e.g., CCD, fibers, image slicers),
• theoretical and practical aspects of data reduction and consideration of errors,
• example target physics and
• prospects in spectropolarimetry.

The book delivers all necessary tools for a complete and detailed spectrograph design for anybody familiar with high-school mathematics. In other words, all relevant calculations are performed in detail – you will not find the frustrating but common phrase “as one can easily see”.

We can offer a price reduction via our Springer author’s discount. Because shipping is expensive, we could make an order list and bring the respective books to our next section conference in May 2015 in Freiburg.

Cheers, Thomas & Klaus

Hi Thomas,

I don't know about Europe but when I access the Springer website from
Australia they are offering free postage.

Cheers,
Bernard

You are right, of course, Bernard. But that is valid only for respective sellers without author's discount. The book directly from Klaus & me would be with discount (~ 68 Euros) plus shipping costs.

Cheers, Thomas

Hi Thomas,

If I had known I could buy a copy from you (autographed by the authors of
course!) I would have done that ... too late now as I have already ordered
from Springer.

Cheers,
Bernard

Mal abwarten, was die Rezensenten sagen. :?

Gruß, Thomas
