Hello everyone I have attached some fotos from my friend Aristeidis Voulgaris. He is still in Svalbard. The sky was clear during totality and as you can see they got some flash spectra. Cheers! Hi Alex, nice impressions! Now, well, what are they doing with such flash spectra? ciao, Daniel |

Aloha The idea is to compare the intensity of Fe XIV. The stronger it is the more active the Sun is. Also sometimes weak lines, that usually require a lot of energy to be produced, are detected. This gives a better understanding of the current status of the Sun. Have a look here http://arxiv.org/find/astro-ph/1/au:+Vo ... /0/all/0/1 The spectra form last Friday show that the lines are stong again. Cheers Alex |

Excellent stuff! Will they write an article for our journal? Cheers, Thomas |

OK, and these prominences are due to magnetic reconnection? BTW: NASA is planing an interesting mission on that within the earth magnetic field: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGh1xc- ... e=youtu.be http://science.nasa.gov/science-news/sc ... 10mar_mms/ cheers, Daniel |

@Daniel As far as I know the filaments are just the cold plasma following the magnetic lines. The Solar flares exist because of magn. reconnection. @Thomas I can promise that I will ask. Cheers Alex |
