Daniel, Sounds like a great addition to our "toolbox"... You have any intention in the future of handling Littrow designs or migration to Windows OS? Ken, the programm is capable of handle also classical designs (and 3D spectrographs), where you can set the total angle to a small value for a Littrow. Yes, a Windows exe will be available soon. Daniel |

BTW: The whole source code is available on git - you can compile it on every OS! |

Dear all, I am happy to announce that there will be soon further tools available in SILENT. Besides the existing ones, I am in the final stage to implement: 1. Fabry-Perot-Tool To calculate the interference pattern in wavelength domain of a Fabry-Perot-Etalon. These devices can be used to account for intrinsic shifts of the instrument. Maybe the ones used in solar telescopes can be used for that. However, they need to be stabilized! 2. Czerny-Turner Tool To calculate aberrations and geometry in two ways: Coma minimization or flat-field condition. 3. Petzval-Tool This tool has a algorithm to search for lens combinations (lenses from a catalog of suppliers) to find a petzval system for a specified diameter and focal length. In a second step/algorithm these combinations (can be easily up to 1.000) are ray-traced (automatic) and spot diagrams are generated to find the best systems of all possible ones. The ray-tracing is a real surface-to-surface calculation. There is also a "glass finder", where one can give the index nd and the Abbe number Vd and find a glass in the catalog (currently Schott and Ohara) closest to the specified number. Besides these new tool soon available, I have implemented the possibility to calculate white-pupil echelle spectrographs by specifying a second collimator (which is often in double pass) and a transfer collimator. To get even higher cross-dispersion it is also possible to calculate cross-dispersion by the use of a double prism (two 60° prisms). I also did some changes in file management. That seemed to generated some "logical confusion by the user". Sorry for that! I hope I can provide both, linux and windows versions within the next few weeks. As always I am happy to receive any comments. best wishes, Daniel
