Does anyone know how to extract echelle spectra from an IRAF FITS "multispec" format to a series of 1D spectra compatible with the BSS database? The conversion can be within or outside of IRAF. Thanks Andrew |

Hi Andrew, In iraf, you can convert multispec-format to 1d-spectra with the scopy command from the noao/onedspec package: See "help onedspec.package" for more information. Basically, enter, in iraf noao onedspec scopy inputfile outputfile format=onedspec Best regards, Otmar |

Thanks Otmar - I found that but it seems even these files are not directly accessible to the standard amateur software. I am halfway to getting a Python program to convert it to a suitable FITS format. Thanks for your help though. Regards Andrew |

Hi Andrew, type during your session "help scopy". The complete help file will be shown in your editor. You can get the same file when you google "iraf scopy". Look at the examples at the end of the help file. In many cases you will find the solution of your problem. When you want to extract exactly one aperture lets say aperture 1 type scopy xyz.ms.fits xyz.fits aperture=1 band=1 Cheers Christian |

Hello Olivier Zitat:
Note that audelà can do this kind of conversion :
Audela can read and convert IRAF multispec files ? That is interesting. What is the command? I cannot find it listedhttp://www.audela.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=en:start http://bmauclaire.free.fr/spcaudace/fonctions.php Thanks Robin |

Hi Robin, This is not with spc audace, but with a CCD module that you can find in the camera menu of audelà (the eShel CCD module) here's a screen copy, you right clic on the main spectrum file and you can save it in differents format like Bess or individual fit order by order.

Thanks Olivier & Christian - I will follow up you links and suggestions. I have managed to write a python program to do the extract but a packaged version would be best. Regards Andrew |

I think I have found the problem. scopy works fine. It is the test data I was using that has header keyword(s) that ISIS does not like. I am now working through my own data which won't have the problem keyword ( I don't have an "overscan" region). I will still need to edit the file to add the BSS keywords. Thanks again for the help. Regards Andrew. |
